The program in the Department of Mathematics provides a solid background in both pure and applied mathematics, covering fundamental concepts as well as the latest developments in research. The curriculum is designed so that students are first educated in fundamental areas of mathematics, such as algebra, analysis, and differential equations, and then increase their knowledge by learning concepts, definitions, and theorems, and develop abstract thinking abilities and mathematical skills by studying various proofs and computational techniques. The many upper-level electives offered by the Department allow students to specialize in their areas of interest.
