The Master of Science in Social Studies of Gender is an interdisciplinary social science Master’s programme that aims to provide you with the core elements through which current gender theories and research, in dialogue with established academic disciplines, have contributed to the understanding of broader social processes. With these skills in social science and gender analysis, you will be able to formulate and analyse interconnections between theory and practice concerning gender, class, ethnicity and sexuality. Many students choose to do an internship during the programme, for instance at embassies and in international NGOs, private companies and the public sector, where a gender perspective is crucial.

Our goal is to give students leading competences in biomedical research so that they are well prepared for independent work in medical research and development. The programme leads to a Master of Medical Science, with a major in Biomedicine. Teaching takes place in a research environment at the Biomedical Research Centre in Lund and all teachers are also active researchers.

Geomatics involves the acquisition, management and analysis of phenomena with a spatial reference. The spatial analysis finds applications in many areas, such as health, environment management, natural resources assessment, urban planning, geology, archaeology and agronomy. This programme aims to provide you with knowledge in spatial analysis focusing mainly on environmental applications. Models and theories for understanding the Earth’s climate and ecosystems are integrated with knowledge for collecting environmental information using remote sensing, storing the information in databases and theories behind Geographical Information Systems (GIS).

The MSc in Economics brings you the quantitative skills and analytical mindset that are essential for a successful career in governmental organisations, international institutions and private sector firms such as banks and economic consultancies. The rigorous and research-based education will enable you to undertake advanced economic analysis by applying modern economic theory and state-of-the-art tools for handling data and conducting econometric analysis (using, for example, STATA and MATLAB). The programme offers a wide range of elective courses (60 credits in total), allowing you to specialise in your field of interest. You also have the opportunity to study one semester abroad at one of our international partner universities.

In the Master’s Programme in Applied Cultural Analysis, students are trained in ethnographical fieldwork and cultural analysis. Students learn how to use these theoretical and methodological skills as a means of supporting organisations and businesses as well as municipal and community-based actors to develop their services, products and public outreach programmes. Students also gain an advanced understanding of how to interpret, handle and approach different cultural contexts, and perspectives on project management and communication. The programme works in close cooperation with clients from both the public and private sectors and NGOs. For many students, the programme functions as preparation for and a gateway to PhD studies.

This programme is specifically designed to meet the demands within research, field archaeology and cultural heritage management. It combines high scientific and theoretical standards with intensive practical training. You will be taught how to excavate and document the past, how to apply the latest digital technologies for documentation and visualisation, how to analyse artefacts and other archaeological materials, how to analyse buildings and landscapes, and how to communicate your findings and research results to a wider audience. We offer Sweden's only international MA programme in archaeology and ancient history, as well as a rich, multidisciplinary teaching and research environment.

This Master’s programme provides knowledge on current theories and models of aquatic ecosystems, the relation between watershed, atmosphere, lakes and streams, interactions between humankind and aquatic ecosystems, and water management. Practical training in laboratory and field methodology is also emphasised. Some of the courses contain week-long excursions where practical field studies are conducted; from hypotheses and preparations, via sampling, analysing samples and data, and finally writing a report and performing an oral presentation.

This programme connects fundamental research with its applications and integrates genetics, gene technology, cell biology, molecular biology and molecular biotechnology. The common basis is within molecular genetics, which is the discipline that explains how the information in the genes is expressed and how it can give rise to various traits in an organism. Emphasis is put on genetic mechanisms underlying disease, genetic mapping, molecular genetic techniques and diagnostic methods. Training in entrepreneurship and processes of innovation and commercialisation in the molecular biotechnology field provides a fundamental base for careers in biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry. A majority of the graduated students continue with PhD studies, often within the biomedical research field.

The Master’s in Church Music programme aims to educate musicians that possess high artistic, educational and professional abilities. We offer specialisations in Arrangement and Composition, Organ and Keyboard, and Vocal Music and Choir. On completion of the programme, the student must possess advanced knowledge and skills in order to work within the various functions and engagements of a professional musician – either as a soloist, a member of an established ensemble or as a church musician within the Church of Sweden or within other denominations.
